FOUR-MILE STRETCH OF ROAD HAS SEEN FOUR FATALITIES OVER PAST SIX YEARS

- By SIOBHAN MIDDLETON

AFTER four deaths along a four-mile stretch of road in six years, villagers have called for change.

The most recent fatal crash on the A1307 between Bar Hill and Swavesey happened on August 29, when motorcyclist Christopher Millard died near the Lolworth junction.

People living in Lolworth, accessed via a turning from the A1307, believe that changes need to be made to prevent future deaths.

Having previously exited and entered their village onto the Al4, changes to the road layout in 2019 mean Lolworth locals now access and leave via the A1307.

Lolworth residents told the News that drivers constantly overtake at junctions leading to the village and Herbie’s Diner, and many travel too fast along the road.

They have called for changes such as a reduced speed limit and double-white lines to ban overtaking at junctions.

Julian Turner, 69, said many people are unaware of the Lolworth junction when they overtake other vehicles on the road.

He continued: “How many people have to die before the council realises it is actually dangerous?

“We are fighting the council's highways team, which is using national guidelines to justify inactivity.

“We don’t have proper signs. People are able to ignore the one sign marking the turn, because people don’t see it”.

Greg Veit believes councillors want to do the “bare minimum’
