Fed-up residents say town is 'overcrowded'
Cambridge News
|December 16, 2025
RESIDENTS have said a Cambridgeshire town is "overcrowded", putting pressure on local services.
Between the 1960s and 1970s, Whittlesey had a population of only between 6,000 and 7,000. Flash forward to today and there are around 17,667 that live within the area, as recorded in the 2021 census. The population has increased with more houses being built.
As a result, some locals think the town has become overrun. Sue Brown, who has lived in Whittlesey for over 40 years, said it has become "overcrowded".
She said: "I love living here, but the downside is there are too many people now. The expansion of houses doesn't help.
"The services are overcrowded. I needed an urgent appointment for the dentist once and the closest NHS one I could get was in Oakham.
