AFTER a super, sunny summer, autumn seems to have arrived early this year! “The trees are about to show us how lovely it is to let the dead things go.”

- Gareth Williams

This is a famous quote that beautifully captures the essence of autumn, as nature displays a breathtaking show of colours with trees shedding their leaves.

But why do leaves fall off the trees? Deciduous trees are ina race to survive the winter, so they rid themselves of what they no longer need for life in the cold.

Americans call it the Fall, but it’s more accurate to say that they are being pushed - as if the trees are actively ‘pushing off’ the leaves in order to conserve water and energy.

Once stripped of last year’s grandeur, the tree is ready to face whatever winter throws at it. Ready too for new, healthy growth come spring.

‘The shedding of the autumn leaves is like a life lesson on the importance of letting go.
