North Wales expected to serve as backdrop to epic battles in Game Of Thrones spin-off show

- Andrew Forgrave

FILMING has begun on a Game Of Thrones (GOT) prequel that's become firmly associated with North Wales.

Production on Season 3 of House Of The Dragon (HOTD) is under way at HBO's Leavesden Studios in Hertfordshire, with on-location shooting reported to be starting in North Wales on May 5.

Already there's plenty of fan speculation that the third series will see some full-on GOT brutalism as the Dance of the Dragons civil war continues to spiral.

Massive battles and growing body counts are rumoured, with the smart money on several large-scale action sequences.

No locations have yet been confirmed, but the mountains of Eryri (Snowdonia), and Anglesey's coastal settings are likely to be in with a shout again.

Conwy is another possibility, with the local authority looking to set up its own "film office" to boost the area as a filming destination.

Dubbed "Hollywood by the sea" by one councillor, the county has received 70 film company enquiries in the past 12 months.
