MARION McMULLEN LEARNS WHY NEW SERIES YOUR SONG LEFT ALISON HAMMOND IN TEARS ON SONG: Host Alison Hammond, centre, with mentors Sam Ryder and Paloma Faith
EVERY song has a story and filming Channel 4’s Your Song proved a real sob story for everyone involved.
“I wasn’t ready for the amount of tears Paloma Faith cried,’ says presenter Alison Hammond.
“I cried, the sound guy cried... grown camera women and men cried - it was like a group cry with microphones!”
The Channel 4 series comes from the makers of The Piano and The Great British Bake Off and gives people the chance to sing their hearts out to a track that holds a special meaning to them.
Alison took a popup stage and live house band into the heart of some of the UK’s most vibrant cities to invite members of the public to truly express themselves in front of a crowd - with mentors Paloma Faith and Sam Ryder offering feedback. The best performers will get a chance to take to the stage again in a grand final at London's Hackney Empire.
Alison says: “Honestly, it’s been magical. I've got the best seat in the house - front row to people literally living their dream.
“You see them shaking at first, then that first note hits and suddenly they're flying. I’m there clapping, crying, dancing, the whole Hammond rollercoaster. It’s proper special watching ordinary people do extraordinary things”
