NOW'S YOUR CHANCE TO DISCOVER THE WONDER OF HARVESTING YOUR OWN GARDEN SEEDS

- DIARMUID GAVIN

AUTUMN is a time of harvest and it's not just about fruit and veg, but also the many seeds our garden plants provide.

A crisp sunny day gives you the perfect opportunity to go out and collect some to propagate some of your favourite plants. A seed is a wonder of nature, containing the embryonic form of a plant. Seeds are created by the transfer of pollen from the male anther of one flower to the female stigma of another flower. A fruit is formed by the ovary of the flower to protect this seed and this can vary in form from a juicy succulent fruit to a hard dry surface.
