Rumarn makes breakthrough as Albion end relegation fears

The Latics managed an equaliser only in the last minute of stoppage time after Rumarn Burrell's 57th-minute opener and the Brewers had looked well worthy of a win after being much the better side in the second half, although the first half was a non-event.

Burton made two changes from Saturday's win over Cambridge United, with Nathan Lofthouse out injured and JJ McKiernan suspended.

In came Finn Delap and, returning from his four-match suspension, Charlie Webster.

Former Brewer Jonny Smith started for Wigan, with former Burton loanee Dale Taylor up front.

Burrell was halted on the right in the second minute to give Burton the first corner of the game but Webster's poor delivery was cleared.

The Brewers had started on the front foot and a sustained attack instigated by Udoke Godwin-Malife winning the ball on the right eventually came to nothing.

Neither team were holding back in the early stages, though, and Smith, forced to use his right foot, ballooned a cross out of play from the left in the seventh minute.

Burrell, running on to a pass from Jon Dadi Bodvarsson, won another corner in the 10th minute but a foul was blown for as the ball came over.

A superb interception by Delap allowed Webster to run at Wigan in the 15th minute but his shot from 25 yards was well off target.

Bodvarsson nicked the ball in midfield in the 22nd minute and played Webster in but an excellent tackle by James Carragher halted him before he could shoot.
