New president of RBL boasts a 'passionate background of service'

A NEW president has been elected for the Ashby & District Branch of the Royal British Legion ahead of VE Day.

Branch chairman Dan Harrison said he was delighted that Edwin Stuart Allen, known as Stuart, who has more than 33 years' membership of the legion, will be its new president.

Stuart's nomination achieved unanimous endorsement by the branch.

He was born during the war at the home of his grandmother in Keighley, Yorkshire, and was educated at what was then known as Ashby Boys Grammar School.

The committee and membership are currently on a recruitment drive, and are inviting anyone interested to join the branch meeting, which is held at The Ivanhoe social club on the first Tuesday of every month, and membership is open to all, not just veterans.

They are particularly focusing on helping those suffering with PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder).
