LAW CHANGE ALLOWS DIGGERS AND TRACTOR POWERED BY HYDROGEN - PIONEERED BY JCB - TO BE DRIVEN ON UK ROADS
THE MP for Burton and Uttoxeter has hailed the 'huge milestone' that will allow hydrogen-powered diggers and tractors to be driven on UK roads.
A new law, which came into force on April 29, now allows hydrogen powered non-road mobile machinery, such as diggers and tractors, to use the public highway.
JCB chairman Anthony Bamford, right - who instigated a £100 million project to develop a hydrogen combustion engine - hailed the news as "historic".
Lord Bamford's reaction came as a hydrogen powered JCB digger was driven around London's roads to mark the momentous announcement.
Burton and Uttoxeter MP Jacob Collier said he worked closely with JCB to get the law changed.
