BURTON Athletic Club are up and running in league athletics for the summer with third place in the UK Youth Development League upper age group North/East Division 1A, held at Leamington.

It's strong third for Burton as league athletics is started

Behind the convoluted title of the competition, it boils down to Burton's young athletes being up against teams from Amber Valley & Erewash, Charnwood, Derby, Leicester Coritanians, Tamworth and Coventry Godiva/Leamington.

There will be three matches, the other two at Derby in May and Loughborough in July.

At Leamington, Burton had a number of new faces into the under-17 age group and set two club records, with 24 personal bests.

In the under-20s there were good performances in the sprints into a headwinds.

In the 100m, Blayn Ganley ran 12 seconds for second in the A race and there was a win in the B for Charles Jeanes in 11.8.

The 200m saw Jeanes third in 23.7 in the A and guest Kai Kuroda third in the B in 24.6.

Bizarrely, Jeanes was hampered by a hurdle left in his lane in the 400m and came fourth in 54.4.

Kamil Kolodziej ran 54.2 for second in the B race.

The 800m saw Henry Hemmings, although under-17, come second in the under-20 race in 1.59.8, with Kolodziej third in the B.
