Flames shot from path as electrical fire closed firms

TOWN centre businesses lost a day's trade in January 2004 after an electricity cable exploded and caused flames to shoot up through the pavement.

Firefighters were called to the blaze outside Burton Constitutional Club in High Street on January 8, 2004.

Neighbouring businesses including Yates’s Wine Lodge, The Lord Burton and Vadis Insurance Company, were evacuated while firefighters attempted to bring the flames under control with a special powder used to extinguish electrical fires.
