AS the league table begins to take shape heading into the busy winter schedule with games almost every other three days, Albion have put themselves in pole position for a special season in League One.

With 16 games played, we are now a third of the way through, and it is no longer just the start to the season anymore.

The Brewers have played a whole host of teams at the top, bottom and middle tier and sit in the top half of the standings for a reason.

The table doesn’t lie and, while it can soon change, they have been to one of the best teams in the league in Cardiff, arguably the next best in Bradford, the form team in newly promoted Wimbledon, and won at them all, while travelling to big spending hotly-tipped Huddersfield and drawn.

That says a lot about what this group are capable of. The fact they can go to places such as Cardiff and Bradford and make the long trip home with the points in their back pocket is very telling.

A win is still only three points no matter who you play and what position they are in the table, but the psychological element it can bring in terms of the confidence and belief and the statement it sends out to rival teams who would have banked on Burton losing cannot be underestimated.

It’s why football is played on grass and not paper, and why we all love it. Anyone can beat anyone on any given day, and the boys in yellow epitomise that mantra.

No one predicted Plymouth to be where they are, nor Blackpool or Peterborough for that matter. This is perhaps unknown territory for them that they did not prepare for.

Albion are used to those kinds of battles, and Gary Bowyer is the man for the job in any scenario after what he accomplished last season in a far worse situation, and the one he continues to do this year.

Managers like Tom Cleverley are under pressure. Darren Ferguson has already left Peterborough while Blackpool, Reading, Wycombe and Luton have all moved on.
