FAMILY WEAR THEIR WEDDING OUTFITS FOR CARE HOME VISIT

A 101-YEAR-OLD care home resident who was unable to attend her granddaughter’s wedding was still able to share in the special day.

Joyce Buchanan, who lives at Amber Wood Care Home in Burton, welcomed her granddaughter Siobhan Wraight, her new husband and several family members after they arranged for the wedding to come to her.

Siobhan wore her full wedding dress for the visit, which took place on Christmas Eve, after the official ceremony on December 22.

Joyce’s son, Chris Buchanan, said the idea was suggested by the family and was immediately supported by staff at the care home.

“We all arrived dressed in our wedding suits and she was in her wedding outfit gown,” Chris said.

Joyce, who is bedbound and has not left her room for around two years, was carefully prepared for the visit by staff, who dressed her and made the room special for the occasion.

“When I walked in, I explained to mum who was coming to see her, and she was full of joy when the family walked in,” Chris said.
