Council sets out spending plans in 'positive' budget

EAST Staffordshire borough councillors have approved the authority's budget for the 2026/27 financial year.

It includes plans to spend more than £4 million on services during the 12-month period, in addition to existing continuing investment of over £1.6m seen over the last two years.

Following financial uncertainty over the last few years, which have seen single year financial settlements from government whilst an anticipated update to the formula that is used to allocate funding to local authorities has been implemented, councils have now been provided with a three-year settlement.

A council spokesperson said: “The outcome of the settlement and the council’s strategic approach to financial planning has allowed it to seek to balance investment in the council's priorities within the resources that are available, with the updated strategy setting out plans for significant investment in the borough, whilst at the same time protecting services and presenting a balanced budget.”

Service investment for 2026/27 totals £4.194m, with the main areas focused on:
