CIA turncoat Aldrich Ames, who betrayed Western intelligence assets to the Soviet Union and Russia in one of the most damaging intelligence breaches in US history, has died in a Maryland prison aged 84.

The coffin of Riccardo Minghetti is carried out of the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul at the end of his funeral service in Rome, Italy. Riccardo Minghetti, who was 16, is one of the 40 people who died in a fire that broke out during New Year celebrations on the night of January 1 at the Le Constellation bar in the ski resort town of Crans-Montana, Switzerland
A spokesperson for the Bureau of Prisons confirmed Ames died on Monday.
