ATHLETICS: Five Burton Athletics club members made their way to the masters indoors European championships in Torun, Poland.

On the first day, Laura Allen in the W35 Discus made a tentative start before her two last consistent throws of 19.62 and 19.61 for a season's best and fifth place.

The second day saw early starts for Jack Poxon and Jill Lamb.

Lamb was on the outside throwing area in the W65 discus. Lamb opened with a 11.03 and finished with a 11.88 to finish 16th.

Poxon got off to a good start in the M40 with a 5.70 opening jump which he improved to 5.87. Then a 5.86 left him seventh with eight people to jump.

No-one improved enough to pass him and he made the final eight in a very strong field. Poxon then went for it, narrowly fouling on his next two jumps.

He then improved to 5.91 with his final jump to take seventh.

Allen was competing next in the W35 Hammer. She was pleased to open with a 23.03. She then improved to 26.58 to go seventh and qualify for the final. There she threw a 26.87 to confirm her seventh place.
