COUNCILLORS SET TO ASK FOR PAUSE TO LGR IN STAFFORDSHIRE

- By JONATHAN SUTTON Local Democracy Reporter

'Adding unnecessary pressure to already stretched services relied on by vulnerable is unacceptable'

A STAFFORDSHIRE council could be set to write to the government asking for a pause in local government reorganisation.

East Staffordshire Borough Council are set to debate a motion put forward by the Conservatives calling on councillors to unite behind the message that it is 'unnecessary'.

This comes as Staffordshire County Council has called on the government to scrap proposals calling it a 'a costly political experiment'.

Now the Burton-based borough council could be set to follow.

At the end of November all local authorities in Staffordshire set their final proposals on the future of local government to government for consideration.

However, the vision by East Staffordshire Borough Council, to create two new authorities, one in the north and one in the south was only just supported.
