INNER at the Pump House wasn’t part of the original plan but I was walking past after a harbourside pint elsewhere and something caught my eye.

That something was the surprisingly affordable set menu. At £21.50 for two courses or £26 for three, it was simply too tempting to ignore.

I'll be the first to admit that The Pump House had sort of slipped off my gastronomic radar in recent years. More fool me - the place was busy for a balmy midweek evening, mostly drinkers on the waterfront terrace but also a fair few number of diners inside.

There was also an event going on at the pub - a pottery class where people were making their own garden gnomes. And why not?

During a period when even more Bristol restaurants have closed, including veteran Indian restaurant Old India after 23 years, it's reassuring to see a long-running place like The Pump House still open and doing well.
