Tech £500k funding boost for data firm

A BRISTOL company developing and prototyping technology capable of sending data at the speed of light has received a major funding boost.

Duality Quantum Photonics secured the £500,000 finance package from Truro-based finance provider SWIG.

The Clifton-headquartered company, which was launched in 2020 by professor Anthony Laing with his friend and fellow PhD student and physics professor Alberto Politi, now employs 20 staff. Its customers include Microsoft, BT, the UK Atomic Energy Authority and a range of other SMEs and startups.

The funding was delivered in two halves: in August 2023 to fund the employment of two staff members - a business director and operations director - and to expand from shared to dedicated office space; and the second in July 2025, to hire senior staff including a vice president of chip and processor sales, continue research and development and provide working capital.
