Suspicious blazes Police seeking to reassure residents

POLICE are conducting extra 'high visibility patrols' in an area of Bristol after 10 unexplained fires in the past two months.

The spate of suspected arsons prompted a public meeting, which was held on Friday night, as residents expressed their shock and sadness at the ongoing issue.

Avon and Somerset Police said they were investigating the series of fires which, since late April, have involved cars, mopeds, bins, a phone box and even an office chair in the Oldbury Court area of Fishponds.

A police spokesperson said they believed the fires were started deliberately, and officers had been visiting homes to ask for CCTV as the investigation continues into who is responsible.

Residents and neighbourhood police were set to attend Friday's public meeting, which was held at the Vassalls Hub, after the gathering was called by local councillors and other community leaders.
