Support for Wes Streeting's call for an EU customs union

HOPEFULLY 2026 will be the year that Sir Keir Starmer decides he'll no longer let something buried on page 121 of his party's 2024 General Election manifesto hold our country back economically.
That is where Labour listed "red lines" concerning rejoining the EU, a customs union, or the single market. However, recent comments by Health Secretary Wes Streeting have been interpreted as showing support for at least a customs union (Health Secretary Wes backs closer EU links as PM holds the line, Bristol Post, December 23).
A customs union would eliminate tariffs and strip away the "rules of origin" paperwork currently strangling British exporters.
