Show of leg strength on pirate-themed theatre walk

Bristol Post

|

August 29, 2025

This is Show of Strength Theatre Company, this is the Treasure Island Theatre Walks, one the theatre walks you can do in, around and outside of Bristol - they are the city’s best worst-kept secret.

There are now no fewer than eight different theatre walks, so if pirates and Treasure Island aren’t your thing, then fear thee not.

South of the river, in the people's republic of Bedminster - the town that’s older than Bristol and likes to point that out every now and again - an ensemble of gruesome Victorian characters leap from alleyways to thrill and amaze with tales of grave robbers, body snatchers, hanging judges and people getting eaten by lions in pub gardens.

Bedminster has always been a, er, earthy place, so it’s no surprise this one is called Blood and Butchery in Bedminster - and it’s not just Victorian mayhem, there's also a bit of 1980s dodgy dealing too, with the area's links to the Brink’s Mat gold bullion robbery.
