From cost-free fun to Bristol attractions that are firm family favourites, ELLIE KENDALL shares some summer holiday tips

School's out

THE school holidays are here and, for some, filling the weeks with memorable and productive activities can feel like a daunting task.

But, fear not, as Bristol is home to a plethora of places to visit and a great many family-friendly events in the diary to enjoy.

We've compiled a list of various things to do in Bristol during these summer holiday weeks - both free and ticketed - though there is always sure to be more to discover...

FREE EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES

Hunt for familiar faces on the Gromit Unleashed 3 sculpture trail

The Gromit Unleashed 3 sculpture trail has hit the streets of Bristol this summer, and will be here until August 31, with 53 sculptures to find in the city, as well as further afield.

Take in the sights and sounds of the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta

From Friday, August 8, to Sunday, August 10, at Ashton Court Estate, the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta returns for another free-to-attend festival. More than 100 hot air balloons from around the world are set to take to the skies (if weather permits) across six mass ascents - one each morning and evening - and two Night Glows will take place on the Friday and Saturday night.

Visit www.bristolballoonfiesta.co.uk for full details.

Mall Cribbs Causeway's Water Garden

The free water garden at the Mall Cribbs Causeway is open every day and features bubble machines, splash zones and ice cream aplenty.

St Andrews Park Paddling Pool

A popular destination for families in the summer, St Andrews Park Paddling Pool is now open for the summer, providing little ones with a clean area of water to paddle and play in. The park itself also boasts a play area, toilets and plenty of spots for a picnic.
