Public transport Planners looking at potential for extending services

TRANSPORT planners are looking at the possibility of extending the Severn Beach railway line to Bristol Parkway train station.

After reaching Parkway, trains would then turn around and head back the other way, instead of looping around the city as some councillors are calling for.

‘A study was commissioned by the West of England Combined Authority to look at options for increasing the number of trains going to the planned Henbury station. One option would be to allow passenger trains running from Avonmouth to use an existing freight line to Henbury.

This would connect up the west and northwest of Bristol with the north and the northeast, including major employment centres like the port with newly built housing estates.

It's not clear when the study will be completed, but new details were revealed in a member forum meeting this week.
