Milestone Work completes on city centre's biggest residential scheme

It was once supposed to be the biggest single development in Bristol city centre promising an upmarket food hall, hotels, offices and flats.

But the original plans fell by the wayside as Covid, then the cost-of-building crisis hit, and the huge 2.5-acre site in Redcliffe was left empty and untouched for a couple of years, before new plans were eventually approved.

That was back in 2022, and what was then called the Redcliff Quarter was switched to an entirely residential development and renamed Glasshouse Square.

Work finally got under way just over three years ago on what was still the biggest single residential development in the city centre - a total of 468 new apartments - and finally, the developer has now handed over the keys to Grainger the UK's largest 'build-to-rent' residential landlord, who will manage the huge development.

A total of 94 of the 468 flats at Glasshouse Square - between St Thomas Street and Redcliffe Street in Redcliffe, just to the south of Bristol Bridge - will be let out at 'affordable' rents, around 80 per cent of the market rate, to people on the HomeChoice housing waiting list.
