Homes Planning officers recommend 23-storey tower block is approved

CONTROVERSIAL plans to create the tallest building in South Bristol look set to be approved despite the council receiving hundreds of objections.

Planning officers have recommended the scheme in Bedminster be granted permission when the committee meets next week.

The proposal includes tower blocks reaching up to 23 storeys on a site next to the railway line below Victoria Park.

A spokesperson for the Galliard Apsley Partnership said: "Our scheme will do exactly what regeneration is meant to do: deliver high-quality placemaking."

The spokesperson added the project would create green public spaces and ensure there were sustainable ways for people to travel.

The development features 434 build-to-rent flats alongside purpose-built accommodation for 400 students.

It replaces industrial units with a densely populated landscape representing the first major step in regenerating the area.

The tallest tower will surpass the 18-storey Northfield House which has held the record in the area since the 1960s.
