Hockey Adam, 17, on target to ensure a point for West leaders

CLIFTON Robinsons men missed the chance to extend their lead at the top of England Hockey West Conference after being held to a 1-1 draw by second-placed Chichester.

- David PARRY-JONES

Robbies dominated play but the South-Coast visitors took the lead with a scrappy Elliot Scott goal from a counterattack in the 41st minute. Seven minutes later, 17-year-old Clifton College pupil Adam Wyatt dispatched a drag-flick into the roof of the net to bring the sides level. Robbies had eight second-half penalty corners which they failed to convert as Chichester 'keeper Chris Bristow made some tremendous saves to deny the home side.

"It's frustrating as we played all the hockey while they came simply to break down our game, though given we were missing five players from our ideal starting lineup, it shows how far we have come" said coach Dave Hacker. Robbies host fifth-placed Ashmoor on Sunday at Clifton College (noon).

University of Bristol lost 4-1 at home to Team Bath Buccs in the same division. Willem Owens scored the students' goal. The students travel to Marlow on Sunday.

In Women's Premier Division, Clifton Robinsons gained their first win of the season with a 3/1 victory over University of Nottingham.
