Golf Ryder Cup consolation for Fleetwood after Memphis slip

The Southport golfer went into the final round of the FedEx St Jude Championship in Memphis with a one-shot lead, looking for his maiden win in his 162nd event, but a poor finish saw him miss out on a playoff by a stroke.

That playoff was won by Justin Rose, who also booked his place in Luke Donald's side, with his opponent US Open champion JJ Spaun guaranteeing his spot in the United States team despite losing at the third extra hole.

Two-time major winner Xander Schauffele also booked his spot for the United States with his joint-22nd finish.
