GCSE success Pride and joy as students across the region celebrate

STUDENTS across the Bristol region were celebrating their GCSE results yesterday.

Blaise High School celebrated its best ever results.

Headteacher Nat Nabarro said: “I am incredibly proud of all of the staff and students and parents at Blaise High School. I am particularly proud of this outgoing cohort who have far exceeded the achievements of the students who have gone before them.

“This set of results is the best the school has ever achieved and we are delighted”

The results represent a significant increase in the school’s overall Attainment 8 score, a record-breaking improvement in the percentage of children getting both good and strong passes in English and aths. The school’s Attainment 8 score has improved from 40 to nearly 45, and the percentage of children achieving a standard pass (Grade 4) in English and maths has increased to 65% and a strong pass (Grade 5) has improved to 51%. At St Bede’s Catholic College 81% of students achieved a 4 or higher in English and maths, 34% of all grades were 7 or higher and the Attainment 8 score was 5.6.

Principal Rob King said: “This fantastic group of students has lived through a hugely challenging time. Despite the uncertainty, they have worked hard and risen to the challenges in a way that is so impressive.

“These children have grown in all aspects of their life, but today is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate their academic successes. Although we have many great performances at the top end, with large numbers of grades 8 and 9, ‘we want to recognise all the huge achievements from students that have been dealing with very difficult circumstances.

“These students have earned the grades that will allow them to take their next steps in life. The students are a credit to themselves, their families and the college and we know they are going to make important contributions to our society in the future.”
