Education Pupil says toilet policy damaging health
Bristol Post
|June 12, 2026
A BRISTOL schoolgirl says severe restrictions on when pupils can use the toilet are damaging her health - but academy leaders insist “wellbeing is a priority”.
Fairfield High School in Horfield has implemented a policy allowing students to access lavatories only during break and lunchtimes to curb antisocial behaviour.
Exceptions are limited to pupils with medical conditions, meaning others must be escorted to facilities by a staff member during lessons.
One teenage girl who the Post spoke to this week said: “While students are told they may access toilets during lesson time, they are required to wait for a designated member of staff to escort them, and that staff member must wait outside the cubicle while they use the facilities in which staff rarely attend to needs as there is an impractical staff to student ratio.
