Cut above Shop still thriving after 70 years

A TRADITIONAL butcher is bucking the trend of high street closures with customers queuing out the door to secure their weekly supplies.

DG & L Tucker on Soundwell Road was established in 1954 and has remained a staple of the local community for more than 70 years.

The business was opened by Douglas Tucker the same year rationing ended in England and he continued working there until he was 86.

Lee Tucker, owner of DG & L Tucker, said: “We try to keep the quality consistent, and try and keep the prices fair.”

Mr Tucker added his father told him when he was made a partner 40 years ago to charge what was necessary without taking advantage of people.

The shop recently navigated another frantic Christmas period where queues stretched out of the door daily despite the availability of cheaper supermarket alternatives.
