Badminton Avon crowned national senior champs for first time

AVON'S top badminton players played the final round of the Senior County Championship.

In a fantastic effort, Avon's badminton clubs and universities worked together, giving it their all against some of the best counties in the country over three weekends.
Avon had 99 players participating in the season-long competition, in events including singles, doubles and mixed. Avon is well represented across senior, junior and masters' county badminton and with a total of seven teams playing in the Senior County Championships across The Premiership, Division Two, Division Three and Division Four, are unmatched by any other county for the number of teams and strength in depth.
In unprecedented scenes, after 16 straight years in The Premiership, the first team were crowned national senior county champions in a first for any team from the South West in the 90 years of the competition, cementing themselves in the history books. Avon became the 11th county to win since the year 1930, seeing off competition from all over the country in the final weekend of the tournament, held at the National Badminton Centre in Milton Keynes.
