'Amazing young lad' Teenager was tasered before fatal M5 collision

N ‘amazing young lad’ has been named as the victim of an M5 crash as more details emerge about his death.

Logan Smith, 18, was Tasered by police shortly before he was struck bya car on the motorway in Somerset.

He died at the scene of the collision near Weston-super-Mare on Sunday, November 30, after he exited an ambulance, which had pulled over on northbound side on the way to get him to hospital. Logan entered the live lane of the motorway and ambulance staff called for police aid, the police watchdog said. An officer arrived at the scene a short while later. A spokesperson for the Independent Officer for Police Conduct said: “Body-worn video footage we have viewed shows the officer attempted to engage with Logan and a short time later discharged their Taser, causing Logan to fall to the ground.
