Thousands still waiting for routine treatment

Tens of thousands of patients were waiting for routine treatment at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals Trust in June, figures show.

While NHS England praised its staff who “pulled out all the stops to treat a record number of patients in any June”, health professionals have expressed concerns over treatment waiting times nationwide.

NHS England figures show 37,267 patients were waiting for non-urgent elective operations or treatment at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust at the end of June-up from 34,999 in May, and 34,017 in 2024. Of those, 1,730 (five per cent) had been waiting for longer than a year.
