CHRIS Sutton does not subscribe to the theory that Blues could well be the next Ipswich.

Blues achieved part one of 'Operation Do An Ipswich' by winning the League One title in record-breaking fashion with six games to spare.

The Vertu Trophy final defeat to Peterborough was a bump in the road, but all eyes are now on the summer and how manager Chris Davies will reshape his squad in preparation for the Championship.

Blues chairman Tom Wagner believes the club will be competitive financially in the second tier, with revenue that stacks up to those coming down from the Premier League, and the aim is to compete at the right end of the division.

But is it realistic to think Blues can follow the Ipswich model and secure back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League?

Sutton says it isn't.

Sutton, who played on both sides of the Second City divide, said: "I don't think Birmingham can secure back-to-back promotions. I think what Ipswich did is absolutely remarkable. I do.
