City music scholarship remembers ELO great

Conservatoire programme will be named after late star

The man who helped create the unique sound of Brum rock greats ELO is to have a scholarship named in his memory.

The late Richard Tandy, was the keyboardist in the Electric Light Orchestra (ELO), whose melodic hits helped define the sound of the 1970s.

He is now set to have a scholarship named after him at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (RBC).

In support of the scholarship fans are being given the opportunity to make a donation to win tickets to see the final shows of Jeff Lynne's ELO's Over and Out tour - with the proceeds helping train the next generation of musicians.

Tandy, who died at the age of 76 in April 2024, held his final on-stage appearance in RBC's Bradshaw Hall in 2019 as part of his work championing RBC students.
