New alliance will have more seats in Commons than Reform

- JANE HAYNES News Reporter

BIRMINGHAM Perry Barr MP Ayoub Khan is at the heart of plans to create a new independent party of MPs to take on the mainstream parties and challenge Reform.

News the party was close to getting off the ground was announced late last week by Coventry South MP Zarah Sultana.

She announced in a statement that she was quitting the Labour Party and would co-lead a new independent movement of MPs and activists with former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.

Together they intend to be an alternative for disillusioned voters.

Khan, a pro-Palestine campaigner, is one of the original five-strong group of MPs who joined forces after their elections last May in what was called an Independent Alliance.

Sultana takes their number to six, meaning they now outnumber Reform.

But her statement made clear the alliance was now moving to a formal setup, with leaders and a clear set of missions and structures in place.
