Water company says hosepipe ban unlikely

WATER bosses are confident the West Midlands will escape a hosepipe ban this summer - but cannot completely rule it out.

The region has been basking in sunshine during record warm temperatures this spring, raising the possibility of a hosepipe ban.

Nevertheless, Severn Trent says the Midlands has not had a hosepipe ban in 30 years and "is confident this will continue". It was down to ongoing investment, including £400 million to upgrade pipes, the company said.

However, much will depend on the weather and any spike in usage and Severn Trent is encouraging customers to be mindful of the amount they use.
