War hero's medals sell for £34k at auction

A MIDLAND war hero who became the youngest Military Cross recipient since the Second World War has sold his gallantry medals for a record-breaking £33,800.

Lance Corporal Alexander Kennedy, of Redditch, was awarded when he was ambushed by the Taliban in Afghanistan in 2009 at just 18.

He was awarded a Military Cross after his actions were commended as being one of the most “outstanding acts of bravery by a British soldier in the modern era”.

Alexander, now 34, who suffers from PTSD, said he decided to part with the “painful reminders” of his time in the forces.

His collection of medals went under the hammer at Aubreys Auctioneers in Surrey, believed to be an auction record for a modern Military Cross trio.
