Two deny murder after victim was shot dead ‘in a planned ambush’

A MAN was murdered in a submachine gun ambush at a Birmingham industrial estate, a court was told.

Victim Gavin Parry was shot at close range by a gunman with a Skorpion submachine gun in Winson Green, Birmingham Crown Court heard.

Simon Denison, prosecuting, told the jury: “The circumstances of his murder and the evidence you will see and hear in this trial are truly shocking.”

Remell Bailey, 28, from Handsworth, and Dante Kalsi, 28, from Erdington, are charged with his murder which they deny.

They have also pleaded not guilty to an alternative charge of manslaughter as well as perverting the course of justice.

Mr Denison alleged they were among 13 men hiding in the car repair business unit.

“One of those 13 people, the evidence doesn’t prove who also had a machine gun.”

Mr Parry, who had visited earlier, returned wearing a bulletproof vest, and he was holding what appeared to be a Sten machine gun.
