Speed limits reduced to 30mph in safety drive

SPEED limits on roads across Birmingham will be cut from 40mph to 30mph this year.

Changes to adjust speed limits for 27 streets will be made before the end of the year as part of a safety drive being led by Birmingham City Council.

Council bosses are hoping the changes will cut deaths and injuries on the roads.

Cllr Majid Mahmood, cabinet member for environment and transport said: "Together we must do whatever it takes to make roads safer for everyone, which is what our Road Harm Reduction strategy sets out.

"We are making the speed limit on virtually all roads a maximum of 30mph - this will be implemented later this year.

"We are also working with police on red light cameras and we have just announced six new locations for average speed cameras across the city."

Roads where speed limits will be cut from 40mph to 30mph:

A34 Walsall Road, A34 Perry Barr Expressway, A34 Birchfield Road, A34 High Street - From Old Walsall Road to Old Park Walk (near Bartons Arms).

A4041 Queslett Road - near Hamble Road.
