Sikh leaders urge police to ‘do more’ to find attackers

More than 100 people met at parkland off Tame Road, Oldbury - the spot where a woman was raped in what West Midlands Police called a racially-aggravated attack - for a powerful demonstration yesterday afternoon.

Community leaders called on police to find the perpetrators, believed to have been two white men, after the victim was dragged into bushes, beaten and raped as she walked to work at around 8.30am on Tuesday, September 9.

It was said that one of the attackers told the victim, in her 20s, and of Sikh faith, words to the effect of ‘go back to your own country:

Members of the Sikh community met at Guru Nanak Gurdwara (GNG) in Smethwick for prayers before moving by convoy to the spot where the sex attack was carried out.

Organiser Kuldeep Singh Deol, the temple’s education secretary, and former president, branded the culprits “animals” He said the attack had “sent shockwaves” through the Sikh community and across the UK.
