No end in sight for bin strikes after talks stall

HEALTH FEARS AS RUBBISH CONTINUES TO PILE UP ON CITY STREETS
TALKS aimed at ending a strike by refuse collectors in Birmingham have ended without a breakthrough.
Nearly 400 members of Unite in Birmingham launched an all-out strike earlier this month as a long-running dispute over pay escalated.
Rubbish has been piling up across the city, with bins remaining unemptied for weeks and residents complaining of rummaging rats, leading to fears of a public health emergency.
The Unite union says the Labour-run city council could end the dispute "by agreeing to a decent rate of pay". Officials met with council officers on Thursday but the strike continues.
