Man who helped troops sets out his stall in town

AN Afghan man who worked with the British Army in Helmand Province now runs a thriving Walsall fruit stall - which he built up from a £5 profit on his first day.

- NAOMI DESOUZA News Reporter

Imran sells fruit and veg in Walsall, but his journey to setting up his own business is far from conventional.

He worked at Camp Bastion in Afghanistan as an interpreter to help with intelligence in the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and US marines, undertaking risky missions in dangerous situations.

He would have been at risk from the Taliban over his work with foreign agencies once British forces left the country.

He moved to the UK in 2016 under the UK Government's ex-gratia scheme, which resettled those placed at risk for working alongside British forces.

Now 40, Imran is cautious, wanting only to provide his first name and images of his stall as his parents remain in Afghanistan.
