A MAN tried to murder his wife by pouring hot oil over her face as they cooked an omelette together in their kitchen, a court has heard.
Raju Mollah was also alleged to have placed hot cooker hob racks over Mosammed Mumtaz’s chest and face, knocked out her tooth with an object as well as stamped on her while she was on the floor.
A jury heard that the couple, who had been married for over 20 years, had been rowing about selling a property in the build up to the ‘extremely violent’ attack at their home in Heather Road, Small Heath, on January 12 this year.
Mollah, aged 49, has admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm to his wife with intent but stands trial at Birmingham Crown Court denying attempted murder.
Prosecutor Frida Hussain KC said: “The prosecution case is that on the 12th of January of this year he launched a violent attack on his wife Mosammed Mumtaz in the kitchen of their home.
“He caused hot oil to be thrown on to her face and body and caused serious burn injuries.
“And the evidence, as you will hear, will tell you he struck her while she was on the floor with an object, forceful blows, and then further assaulted her.
“He accepted in interview by the police punching and stamping on her while she was on the floor.
