Local plan push as builders target green belt locations

IM Land and Walton Homes wants to build 850 homes on land at Queslett Road, Pheasey. Right, Cllr Adrian Andrew, deputy leader of Walsall Council

WALSALL Council has invited residents to have their say on a document which will guide future housing developments.

The draft local plan comes as housing projects totalling more than 2,300 homes are proposed for various green belt sites across the borough.

Walsall Council has created the draft document in response to a government directive to meet its housing targets over the coming years.

All councils have to submit their plans before December 2026. Failure to do so will result in the Government's planning inspectorate imposing its own local plan.

Cllr Adrian Andrew, deputy leader of Walsall Council, said the borough's green belt was at risk and is encouraging residents to have their say.

Here are seven major housing projects currently active:

IM Land and Walton Homes is currently carrying out a public consultation for a new "neighbourhood" of 850 homes ahead of submitting a planning application to the council.
