COUNCILLOR'S ANGER AS SERVICES SLASHED
THE main library in Sutton Coldfield is set to close soon-prompting anger as people get a poorer service for their rising rates.
The library, based in the Red Rose Centre, will shut in a little over a month's time as part of cash-strapped Birmingham City Council's 'transformation' of library services in a bid to save costs.
The council said the town centre library will shut on Friday, June 27.
It is understood staff were informed a short while ago and their jobs were not under threat.
A council spokesman said: "The closure of the town centre library also allows Birmingham City Council with partners to progress the redevelopment of the Red Rose shopping centre as a priority for the transformation of the Sutton Coldfield Town Centre."
