Inmate died in cell amid major prison drug issues

A BIRMINGHAM prisoner was found dead in his cell after less than a week amid a major drug problem at HMP Birmingham, an inquest heard.
Christopher Randall was moved to the Winson Green lockup on remand on Monday, January 6. But by the early hours of Saturday, he was dead.
The 33-year-old, recorded as a butcher from Bournville, was discovered 'cold and motionless' after taking spice, a synthetic cannabinoid, using a tampered vape.
His death was recorded as 'drug-related' as a result of mixed drug intoxication as his inquest concluded at Birmingham Coroner's Court.
Only last month, news of a similar spice-vape death at the prison emerged, sparking a warning 'more will die' if action is not taken to stop drugs flooding the prison.
Inmate Derrion Adams, 29, was found dead in his shared cell on October 31, 2024.
