Further education is 'Cinderella' of sector

THE further education sector has been left to run on fumes, MPs say.

Further education is 'Cinderella' of sector

The Commons Education Select Committee is also warning the policy that currently requires students who fail to achieve a grade 4 in GCSE English or maths to resit the exams is not working for the majority.

The committee’s report on FE (further education) and Skills states applied general qualifications (AGQs) such as Btecs alongside A-levels and T-levels must be retained, after Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson last year paused planned funding cuts.

T-levels require “urgent reform”, the report adds, recommending the introduction of smaller sized T-level qualifications and that the Government should launch a national awareness campaign to improve recognition.
