End of the road for Mason as Baggies axe falls

RYAN Mason has been sacked at West Bromwich Albion after a dismal run of ten away losses in a row.

- By DAN NEWBOULD

The final straw came when Leicester City's Abdul Fatawu struck the winner in the dying seconds to inflict a 2-1 loss at the King Power on Monday night.

It was actually an improved performance by the Baggies, with plenty of chances to win the game before that but the fans had turned at the end and there is no coming back from that.

The defeat left Albion 18th in the Championship table looking below rather than up. They sit seven points clear of the relegation zone and 10 adrift of the playoff places.

Despite big wins over the likes of Sheffield United and Preston at home, they were just not able to find any consistency and their away form was a big hindrance to climbing the table.

Chants such as ‘Ryan Mason get out of our club’ could be heard coming from the travelling section.

First-team coach James Morrison takes charge on an interim basis, as he did for the final two games of last season following Tony Mowbray’s departure.
